Good afternoon! Thanks for having me on Live Chat regarding Sun Link streetcar.
SUn LInk will accept all Sun Go cards including reduced fares for economy, seniors, etc. The fare system is seamless and allows the Sun Go card to be used on both Sun Link and Sun Tran.
Depending on traffic it should take about 20 minutes from the Plaza Centro stop to the Helen stop.
Allow me to clarify the statement made in the Arizona Daily Star aticle on Sunday. Bicycles will continue to be allowed to ride on the streetcar route. The Tucson Department of Transportation is also looking at parallel routes along the alignment to allow riders to use a roadway that does not have track on it. Thank you for allowing me to clarify this!
On the West End, the Arizona State garage is available for parking. On the east end, the U of A garage is available. There are also parking opportunities downtown as well. Check our Parkwise web site.
Bicycles are allowed to be brought on the streetcars. We ask that you stand with your bike holding on to the poles. The center portion of the streetcars have a lot of space allowing for bicycles, wheelchairs and strollers.
If you already have your Sun Go card, you can use it on both the streetcars and buses. If you are planning on purchasing a pass at any of our streetcar stops, you can use exact change or credit cards. When you board the vehicle, you will validate your fare media at that time.
Part of the reason for the streetcar project is to allow multi modal transportation. By eliminating cars along 4th and Congress we won't be able to accomplish that goal. I think we need to evaluate this as we move forward.
An all day fare is $4 when purchased at the ticket vending machine. It is good for 24 hours from the time the card was validated on the streetcar.
The streetcar route is proving to be a popular destination for many folks. This means that there is a lot of traffic (motor vehicle, bicycles and pedestrians). All users of the roadway are required to follow the rules of the road. This means that if you are on a roadway with one lane of travel, you are not allowed to pass the streetcar when it is stopped. When a streetcar is moving, bicycles can pass as long as it is safe to do so. Be careful of dooring. Streetcar operators are trained to not pass bicyclists in areas that provide less than 3 feet of distance. Please make sure to follow the signs and striping on the roadway.
I don't recall that the Portland Streetcar has bike racks outsides. Our car has limited amount of seats thereby allowing room for bicycles.
The U of A passes are semester passes.
The ticket vending machines located at each of the streetcar stops only dispenses one day passes. This requires exact change or a credit card. Please check out Sun Tran's for the different types of fare media that you can get at their outlets. There are many options that allow you to plan for a trip depending on what you are planning on doing.
Only service animals are allowed.
Streetcar stops have provided for emergency vehicle passing lanes. When you are at a streetcar stop, you will see the area adjacent to the stop red curbed to prevent folks from parking. All of the stops have been evaluated by both the Police and Fire Departments for access for emergency vehicles.
At the present time we are not. You could use a stored value SunGo card to accomplish the same thing.
The streetcar hours are as follows:
Monday - Wednesday 7am - 10pm
Thursday - Friday 7am - 2am
Saturday 8am - 2am\
Sunday 8am - 8pm.
A one day pass at the streetcar stops $4. This is a $3.50 charge plus 40 cents for the card itself and a 10 cent service fee. If you purchase passes at Sun Tran outlets, there are many options you can choose from that allows for stored value, or a 30 day pass or a one day pass in advance. Please check the Sun Tran website for specific pass information and the cost for the various cards.
Yes you will have to pay for designated parking. We are exploring the possibility to link SunLink to the parking ticket. I would think this may be possible within the next year.
The 4th Avenue Street Fair folks worked with us during the planning and design phases to figure out how to accommodate the street fair. We are operating on the east end from Time Market to the eastern terminus and will turn around at Time Market. On the west side of the street fair, we will allow access into and out of the maintenance facility on 8th Street and run streetcar service to the west end. If necessary, we will provide bus bridge support for those riders who wish to ride the full route.
The streetcar will only stop at a stop when there is someone there or someone requests it. During weekdays we will have a ten minute interval. Off hours will be 20 minutes and late night after 10 pm Thursday though Saturday will be 30 minutes
Yes, all financial information on revenues and expenses will be provided regarding the streetcar. This is similar to the Sun Tran system information provided.
